We are thrilled to share that Liane Lang, alumna of our Young Masters Fourth Edition (2017), has been elected as a Royal Academician by the Royal Academy of Arts, one of the highest honours an artist can receive in the UK.
Liane is pictured here signing the Royal Academy’s historic vellum scroll and proudly wearing her newly awarded RA medal, a moment of immense personal achievement and a recognition of her outstanding artistic career. Her election stands as a testament not only to her creative brilliance but also to the lasting resonance of her work.
A Unique Honour
The Royal Academy, founded in 1768 under the patronage of King George III, is led by artists and architects and remains proudly independent. At any one time, its membership is limited to just 100 Royal Academicians, all elected by their peers. Liane’s inclusion among this distinguished group is an extraordinary accolade and one that speaks volumes about her impact on the contemporary art landscape.
Young Masters: A Platform for Artistic Excellence
Here at Young Masters, Liane’s election is particularly meaningful. Our mission has always been to champion artists who engage with the art of the past in imaginative and innovative ways. Liane’s practice, deeply rooted in history and cultural reflection, embodies everything we stand for, and her recognition at this level fills us with pride.
Her success is not an isolated moment. In fact, this summer’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2025 features no fewer than eight Young Masters alumni, showcasing the breadth and brilliance of the artists we have had the privilege to support:
Yinka Shonibare CBE RA – Guest Artist (2012)
Amy Hughes – Ceramics Prize Finalist (2014)
EVEWRIGHT – Shortlisted (2014)
Tom Farthing – Young Masters Dialogues (2014–15)
Michelle Heron – Autumn Exhibition (2022)
Nourine Hammad – Lerouge Knight Cross-Cultural Award (2023)
Liron Kroll – Shortlisted (2017, 2025)
Alexandra Baraitser – Joint Winner, People’s Choice Award (2025)
These artists represent the core values of Young Masters: creativity, curiosity, cultural dialogue and artistic excellence.
